> Facebook allows posts of up to 63,206 characters, but the feed cuts them off with “See more” after a few lines. Draft here to measure both: how long the post is, and what fits above the fold.

## How to use the facebook character counter

1. Write your post in the editor.
2. Read the character and word totals.
3. Check what the first 3 to 4 lines look like; that is what most people see.
4. Put your key message and any link above the fold.

## Facebook limits at a glance

| Element | Limit | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Post (profile or page) | **63,206 characters** | Truncated after a few lines in the feed |
| Comment | **8,000 characters** | |
| Page name | **75 characters** | |
| Page “About” intro | **101 characters** | Shown on the page header |
| Post with a coloured background | **~130 characters** | Background styles apply to shorter text |

Platform limits change and can differ by account type, so confirm the figure in the platform’s own composer before a campaign goes live.

## Length that works

Short posts under about 80 characters tend to earn more engagement in many analyses, while long storytelling posts perform when the first lines are compelling. Facebook cuts off a long post after a few lines, so open with the point. If you are advertising, use the dedicated [Facebook Ad Character Counter](https://wordcounter.pk/facebook-ad-character-counter/), since ads have recommended lengths per field.
