The case styles explained
| Style | Example | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Sentence case | The quick brown fox. | Body text, captions, UI copy |
| Title Case | The Quick Brown Fox | Headlines, book titles |
| UPPERCASE | THE QUICK BROWN FOX | Acronyms, emphasis, labels |
| lowercase | the quick brown fox | Hashtags, tags, normalising data |
| camelCase | theQuickBrownFox | Programming variable names |
| snake_case | the_quick_brown_fox | Databases, Python |
| kebab-case | the-quick-brown-fox | URLs, CSS classes |
Title case follows common editorial convention: short words such as “a”, “the”, “of” and “and” stay lowercase unless they begin the title. Style guides differ (AP, Chicago, APA), so check your house style for edge cases.
Capitalisation and other writing tasks
Fixing text pasted in all capitals, normalising a list of names for a spreadsheet, preparing headlines or turning a title into a URL slug are all case problems. For URLs specifically, the URL Slug Generator also removes punctuation and accents. After changing case, clean stray spacing with Remove Extra Spaces and check the length with the Word Counter. Social headlines and ad copy are shorter than you expect; see Google Ads Headline Character Counter.
