  4. Use the result to check IDs, codes or phone-number lengths.

What counts as a digit

Any Unicode decimal-digit character is counted, so 2026, ٢٠٢٦ and ۲۰۲۶ are each four digits. Currency symbols, decimal points and commas are not digits and appear in the punctuation figure instead. Counting individual digits is different from counting numeric tokens: “1,250” has four digits but is one number, and typically one word. How numbers behave in word counts is covered in Do Numbers Count as Words?.

Use the optional “skip numbers” setting on the main counters when your rulebook excludes numerals from the word limit.

Practical uses

  • Checking CNIC, phone, account or invoice numbers for the right number of digits.
  • Auditing reports to see how number-heavy a draft is.
  • Separating text from data when cleaning pasted spreadsheets.

Pair the result with the Punctuation Counter and Letter Counter for a full breakdown of what a text is made of.
